Rules, Errata, Clarifications
and Other Resources
Updates
Rulebook version 1.4 has been released and reflects the latest rulings of the group. While version 1.3 was in substantial conformance with the rulings of the original designers, it was discovered that there were a couple of minor points which needed to be modified. These details, along with some other minor points which were unclear or not yet ruled on, have been included in the new rulebook.
Further, there were some other points regarding cards and/or other rules which required clarifying. These changes/clarifications have been listed below.
Rulebook
- Ornithopters: The ornithopter rule is one of the least
clear and therefore most argued and divisive rules in the game.
To keep matters as simple as possible, we had ruled that either
Arrakeen or Carthag had to be occupied at the beginning of the
turn in order to qualify for use of ornithopters. This prevented
the Fremen from riding worms into the stronghold to sieze
ornithopters while tokens moving into the stronghold during
movement were prevented from doing the same.
Well, it was discovered that the original intent of the designers was to allow Fremen to ride worms into Arrakeen or Carthag and use ornithopters on the same turn (which falls into line with the language of the original rulebook. For this reason, we have modified our rulebook to reflect this new information. - Fremen Shipment: We confirmed that Fremen tokens shipping into a sector in storm lose tokens regardless of the type of territory that they ship into (sand, stone, stronghold). This falls into line with the language as-written in v1.3.
- Fremen Movement: We confirmed that the Fremen may not move into or out of a sector under storm under any circumstances (even via worm). This falls into line with the language as-written in v1.3.
- Fremen/Guild Alliance: We decided that the Fremen may only make use of the Guild alliance to ship tokens from one territory to another. This language was added to v1.4.
Treachery Cards
- Ghola: The Ghola card may only be used to revive one starred token per use.
- Truthtrance: Question must be answered immediatly. No intervening action may be taken before question is answered.
- Karama: A Karama card used to cancel the starred token advantage of the Fremen or Emperor must be played before battle plans are finalized. This falls into line with the language as-written in v1.3 (but is not how we had played it lately).
