Space Ork: Looted Rhino - Work in Progress

Following you will find one of the many reasons that we cry
at the loss of our beloved Warboss. He can take a tank, a
bitzbox, and a pile of plasticard and create a work of art!
Here is a detailed description of how he did it.

|
Step 1: Turrent
Here is the basic shape I decided on for the turrent. I was trying
to make it look heavily armoured and different from the basic turrent
shape. I used the lobba barrel for the demolisher cannon. It's a bit
smaller but with the armour around it I think it works okay. I also
used a top hatch from the dreadnought for the turrent hatch. I liked
the way it looked, tough and sturdy, just like an ork!

|
Step 2: Hull
I chopped away the peices of plastic for the lascannon and filled
the holes with plasticard. I also built a box to mount the big shoota
on. I used a big shoot and mount from the FW battle wagon but one
could be made from regular big shootas very easily. I didn't like
how far the turrent was sticking out though. The front did not
inspire AV14 so I went a step further...

|
Step 3: Hull part 2
That's more like it. I liked the way the turrnt fit now and
the added protection to the ork gunner was good. Still it needed a
bit more work but the basic shape was there. I thought about a
periscope coming out of the front hatch but I couldn't find
anything that would work. I may go back and add this at a later
date though.

Step 4: Left side
I wanted to have the heavy flamer options for Da Krump since
it's range is so short. I envisioned that the left sponsoon had
been blown off so the mek bolter a skorcha in place and stuck a grot
there to man it. It was difficult the get the box to fit inside
and the grot to fit in the box but it turned out okay. I also added
the dozer blade at this stage. I liked the way it looked but thought
it could be bigger and badder. It was suggested to me to build up
the dozer blade around the big shoota. I also decided to double up
the tracks to make it look even beefer. This turned out to be a pain
because the tracks did fit in place when doubled up. I ended up having
to trim each and every peice. Oh well, I think the effect still works.
You can also see I've started adding the rivets to the hull and turrent.
The rivets make all the difference in the world.

|
Step 5: Dozer blade
Here is the build of the dozer blade. It looks good buit's a bit
off center. It also looks like the extra peices were just 'glued'
into place. I needed even up the notch and add some supports.
|

|
Step 6: Right side
Here's the right side. I imagined that the blast that took off
the left sponsoon entered through the right side and the other
opposite side off. Therefore I needed a large section that was
repaired. I also used the existing sponsoon and removed the bolter
and added a heavy flamer. I added plasticard trim the 'orkify'
it and of course you can't forget the rivets.
|

|
Step 7: Dozer blade take 2
I went back and added the supports and rivets to the dozer
blade. I think it look much better now. I also evened up
the notch.
|

|
Step 8: The back
I'm least stisfied with the back. I tried to give it a large
smoke stack look but I'm not sure it works. The mesh didn't turn
out very well and I may change this up. I also boxed in the side
with the large cut out to git it more of that square look and
customized look. I also went back and added some armour plates
here and there, roughed up all the edges to give it that worn
look and feel. I still need to go back and add some glyphes but
I've yet to make those.
|

|
Step 9: Da Krump is released!
Finally done I couldn't wait to get my baby on the battle field.
In typical fashion it was killed early on with out doing a thing
except looking cool. In it's second outing the demolisher cannon
was destroyed on turn one but the heavy flamers burned all game long!
