Okay, lesson one. Ropes...this is my self taught way of doing it.
I start with a freshly mixed ball of GS. Then I sculpt some other
stuff and after about 15 to 20 minutes I am ready for rope! I make
a ball about the size of a BB and then put a little water on my work
area. Anything very flat will do. Then I slowly roll it out into a
long string. Dont roll too fast or it will ball back up on you.
Once I have a nice long thin string I cut it in half. Then I put
the two strings next to each other and hold the two ends together
(soft touch here is important) and just roll it up. My right hand
rolls away from me and my left hand rolls towards. You will notice
the two strings wrap around each other perfectly. Take a look at
what you have done and if the rope is not wound tight enough then
roll a little more. Dont be too heavy handed with this or you will
have a very flat rope with some nice finger prints in it! Then with
some tweezers grab one end and move it into place. Take your GW
sculpting tool and flatten the end of the rope onto the model to
make a secure joint to the model. With some care you can wrap the
rope any way you see fit around the model with twists and turns to
make the model look like it is in motion. Just remember, the thinner
the string the better the rope will look. I think my first couple of
tries at this, the rope is a little too thick.
Anyways, that is lesson one. Go try it and see how it works.
This is also a great technique for making tubes, once you roll
out your strings just leave them to dry. You can make the tubes any
thickness you want. Now, go take on the day!
