For the Lost
by, Derek Brookover "Woad Raider 57"
Striking Scorpion Exarch Durell led his 7 remaining warriors through
the rubble. Behind him lay the eviscerated corpses of the filthy mon-keigh commander.
His Scorpions had lanced right through them, easily avoiding their clumsy las shots
before tearing them apart. Suddenly, Durell felt Farseer Marauth tug at his mind.
“You must reach the object before the mon-keigh arrive! They must not know of the
deadly secrets of the Bielann!” Durell urged his squad onwards, knowing full well
the consequences should he fail. Seeing another squad of humans, Durell ordered
his men to open fire. After the squad had gunned down the last mon-keigh, Durell
and his squad started to move again, but stopped in their tracks. An olive drab
blur sped across his vision between two shelled out buildings. Just as quickly,
he saw another one to his right. “What is going on?” he wondered aloud. With
eyes filled with terror, a Scorpion fled, his morale destroyed. Then he saw a
glint of blue, just before a roaring cry tore through the air. “SLOGAN!!!!”

Veteran Sergeant Veritas bellowed the
ancient Celtic war cry again, before his scouts crested the hill. Veritas
saw the Xenos leader and signaled to his squad, “He is mine!” Full of battle
fury, the scouts charged the scorpions. Veritas screamed the names of The Lost
as he hacked down two Scorpions and leveled up against the Exarch, driving his
hardened blade between Durell’s neck-guard. Just as quickly as it began, it
was over. Gathering his scouts together, Veritas intoned a prayer for the
two fallen warriors, before sprinting through the rubble and up a small
hillock. He caught sight of the Eldar witch, a Farseer, Veritas remembered
from the briefing. Turning back to his men, he roared, “We are the warriors
of Ultramar, the Chosen of Caledonia, FOR CALEDONIA!” Veritas sighted down
the barrel of his bolt pistol and pulled the trigger.
