It was one year ago this month that the Cyber Cathedral forums first
opened to the general public. 10,000 plus posts and 92 members later
I'd say it was a fair success. Thanks to everyone who has signed up and
sounded off!
In other news, the Pacific Marauders have plenty of irons in the fire.
A Cheesefest tournament, 40k in 40 minutes league, painting competitions,
and more. It's been a slow start, but these things take time to get going.
Check the forums or the Events area of this page for more information (as
it becomes available).
Lastly, we have the very sad news that Game Wherehouse will be shutting its
doors forever. It's been a fun run with Shawn and Carl and we'll miss
their hallowed halls of gaming. Best of luck in your new endeavors, guys,
and hopefully we'll still be able to see you across the gaming table from
us.

Mega-Battle a huge success
|
The first Pacific Marauders event was a huge success. Thanks to all who
participated and helped make it happen.
Although the forces of Order held the fortress, it was at great cost.
The pump station fell, the warp gates were not all shut down, and the
forces of Disorder were left swarming the very walls of the city.
Our next battle will determine the final fate of Dementia Crosas!
Look for it to be scheduled sometime this September.
Our early event coverage can be found under the Events menu item at left.
Future events will be announced and, afterward, covered in this area.

Mega-Battle is almost here!
|
It looks like the Mega-Battle planned for May 8th is actually going to happen.
Massive forces are gathering on each side, ready to take on all challengers.
The de facto event organizer has described the event thusly:
"The mega battle is a series of eight connected missions based around a
mighty battle to control 'the Fortress'. Some missions are adjacent to each
other and some are not. Each Player has an objective. By completing that
objective the player will score points for the completion of the mega battle.
Each table has a way of influencing the outcome of other tables. Sometimes
this will simply be an ability to moves forces from one table to another,
other times this will be a more a unique effect. Securing the Fortress
will yield the largest number of VPS."
"For the most part forces can cross from one table to another. Casualties
lost on a table count toward the win/ loss of that table regardless of
where the models started."
The event is scheduled to take place Saturday, May 8th at Game Wherehouse.

Yes, everyone, I DID fall off the face of the Earth. Fortunately
for us all (IMNSHO) I managed to catch the edge with my pinky and
wrestle myself back up to safety (in jello, no less)...
...and back into the glorious, oh-so-magical world of
overpriced, poorly written, the-world-relvolves-around-Chaos,
cr...
...uh... ...I mean - wonderful Games Workshop
games. Whew - almost lost it there.
After dusting off the old web site *cough* *cough* and limbering up my
typing fingers *crack* (ouch!), I'm firmly back in the ol' saddle
(or is that harness?) of website maintenance.
So, is there any news out there to be had? Boy, howdy! Is there
ever! While I wasn't looking, the peeps decided that they do, in fact,
want a club and it has actually happened!
Our club has officers, a charter,
resident lunatics howling at the moon, belligerent primates throwing poo,
grouchy cartoon characters, and so much more...
...yes, it's everything that you've always dreamed of *sniff* [wipes a tear]...
There will be links to various club related pages in the very near future
(no, really) but until then just jump on over to the forums to check
out all of the action.
Whew! That's more typing than I've done in...
...well, you know. I think I need a beer. Now where's the Beerwarden
when you need him?

The holidays are firmly in hand (or out of hand, as the case
may be) and the Games Workshop scene has never been so full
of joy! We have a Mordheim campaign winding down, a Gothic
campaign starting up, and another 40k league right around
the corner.
How can you find out about all of these fine events? Why just
take a look to your left at the EVENTS menu item. Check it
frequently for updates, rule clarifications, special events

A Reminder about the Meaning of Thanksgiving
|
Thanksgiving is a time
for the entire nation to focus on the many blessings that
the Lord our God has heaped upon us, both as a country and
as individuals. Too often in the course of our daily lives do
we take for granted the abundant freedoms that we enjoy as
citizens of our great nation. We forget the sacrifices that
were made by the God fearing men and women of our nation's past
to establish and preserve those freedoms. Thanksgiving is a time
to give thanks to God for his abundant kindnesses as well as a
time of prayer for a return to the Christian values upon which
our country was built.
When Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a national
holiday on October 3, 1863, he did so with the following words:
"No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal
hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts
of the most high God who, while dealing with us in anger for our
sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. I do therefore invite
my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and those
who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the
last Thursday in November as a day of Thanksgiving and praise to
our beneficent Father who dweleth in Heaven."
Wishing everyone a blessed Thanksgiving.

Let the record show that on this day, 12 November in the year
of our Lord 2003, the proud and noble Great Baldy won his first
game of Warhammer 40,000. It was a long a treacherous road he
travelled to victory, tasting defeat a staggering 18 times and
suffering a draw twice before tallying his first clear win.
Is this a portent of things to come? Only time will tell.

+++ Update... San Diego... +++
|
Well this is it!...
The first Pacific Marauders Warhammer 40k league ends tonight. The forces of Chaos
look strong... but can they continue on their rampage? Or will the might
of the Blood Angels conquer all? Bring BOTH detachments for tonights
final battle.
The PM Mordheim campaign is under way. Many lives have already been
lost in the City of the Damned. No one is safe, not even from the shrubbery.
The campaign so far seems quite successful and many new people are
getting interested in the game. Next year we will plan on a larger
and longer campaign with more participants. So get your warband painted,
and get ready for the horrors and wealth that lie in the streets of Mordheim!

+++ PM League - Week 3 +++
|
Listen up, you naughty little monkeys...
The third night of the league is upon us and those detachments that
you stuggled so hard to comprehend will be coming out of the closet - just
like Aaron. That means that you'll be playing your 1500 point list plus
one 250 point detachment (your 'A' pick). Take a memo.
This weekend brings us the Los Angeles Grand Tournament, however it seems
that there will be nothing more than a token presence from San Diego.
Do we really have so few champions to rise to the challenge? Are there
no more who will take up the mantle and represent our fine city?
Are the pickings really that thin in this, the seventh largest city
in the nation?
Oh, woeful day!
In Monkey news: The War Monkey goes national. I'll be taking a pile
of Monkeys up to the GT with me and handing them out. Who knows...
...maybe
an issue will make its way into the hands of a wealthy patron who will
decide to provide a generous endowment?

What's better than a warm War Monkey, hot off the presses? Well,
nothing, I guess...
But what comes close?
That's right - the new league!
The new league has started, and the age-old struggle between titanic
forces has already yeilded it's first batch of heroic icons of the hobby.
And if you think THAT was overly-dramatic, wait until you see the games!
The league has a new format so, if you are planning on jumping in on the
next one, it may behoove you to stop by and audit the curent league. See for
youself the giddy expressions on the gamers' faces as they gleefully play
out the fate of their little plastic army men.
In other news, the October issue of War Monkey Monthly is out. Pick up your
copy while you can, 'cause that's where you'll be reading it.
[give it a moment - it will come to you].
Remember to ask for it by name in a fine hobby retailer near you.

Thanks to all who have submitted photos of their figs for the
gallery... ...oh, wait - that would be no one. Yes folks, I
have thus far (since the last request) received a big goose-egg
for submittals. Now I know that some of you can paint - and many
of us have cameras - so let's get some pics in the gallery, shall we?
At least Aaron came though with his background, so his profile page
is complete. Head on over to Army Profiles to check out the cool
coverage of his Dog of War.
How many of you have the cool fig from Games Day? Want to know the
special rules for this guy? Well, thanks to some sniffing around
by our own Antonio Judd, the rules for this guy can be found here:
Sternhammer
This file, along with the Word version, will have a real home on the
site by the end of the weekend.
Now, the best has been saved for last. Mr. Matthew Gifford (aka The
Great Baldy) has demonstrated his creativity and personal initiative
by publishing the first edition of a monthly newsletter: War Monkey
Monthly (aka the Baldy review).
Copies of this fine document can currently be found on the counter
of Game Wherehouse, but soon will be coming to a game store near you
(if they consent to carry them, that is). It's free, so grab yourself
a copy and be a part of history.

Okay, boys and girls - I have finally begun to make some more

This is really just Gallery Version 1.0, but it's a start. At
least I now have a place to put all of those pictures that
have been pouring in (hint hint)...
I have a few more pics to post, but then I'll be out - so
take some pictures and send them in!

Eye of Terror - Summer Campaign
The Master's League has been postponed to make way for
the Game Empire Eye of Terror Summer Campaign. Pick your
side and fight it out for the fate of humankind.
The Campaign will be run by Cliff and all battles will be reported
to the Games Workshop website. All players are asked to
REGISTER
their army on the
Eye of Terror Website prior to entry in the league. Cliff will make
a computer available at the store to register and to report results.
Also, please stop by the Forums and let us know what army you are
planning on using, just to give an idea as to the 'balance of power'.
The thread is located
HERE.
A brief description of the campaign:
The campaign features a map of territories that each contain a
beneficial feature (orbital defense platform, solar filter, etc.).
Each week all battles will be fought in one of these territories,
with the overall winning side having the option of deciding the
territory for the next week. The idea is to venture deep into
the enemy's territory, finally making it to their homeworld where
the final megabattle will be fought.
Each territory occupied will provide the owning side with benefits
that may be used in the final battle.
Sportsmanship is "from the hip" (according to Cliff) and army
comp is likewise - so brace yourselves. Fully painted armies
will be rewarded with a +1 to their roll for first turn. What's
a "fully painted army", you ask?
At this point, it's not clear. Only Cliff can answer that question.
Full rules will be posted as they become available. Be sure to
stop by the store and check out the map.
Also, the store is in need of some specialty terrain.
Specifically:
Minefields
Barbed Wire
Tank Traps
Trenches/Barricades
Consult your 40k Basic Rulebook (the section before the missions)
for dimensions. If you need any help with construction just
contact Deuce for the necessary
information.

Missions have now been posted. They are located in the league area under 'Data Files'.
Be sure to scroll all the way to the right to see a full list of missions posted to date.
To get a copy just click on 'Printer Friendly' at the bottom, then you can right click in the
pop-up window and select 'Print'. It's a little cumbersome, but it avoids a lot of unnecessary
garbage in your printout.
Week 3 of the league is upon us. Remember that it's 1500 points tonight and have your lists
ready. Apart from the usual suspects, we are surprised to find the Ultramarines maintaining
an undefeated record so far. Will they be able to hold onto their hard-fought lead? Only time
will tell. What we really want to know is: who is this guy? Is he a rookie? Is he an out
of town ringer? Is he a Chaos spy? More to follow...
Now that the new format is officially online, this is my formal appeal...
...please send me some content. Fiddling with the site is all well and good, but we need to get
some input from 'the masses'. Don't we have any hobbyist or strategists out there? Write something
up and send it in. Strategy articles, painting/modeling/terrain articles, battle reports, stories,
pictures, new missions, sample rules, whatever. We have a large gaming community here in San Diego
and we should have something to show for it.
